Une agréable maison dans un joli village, au calme.

Super location
This is an excellent location from which to explore the area: within a half hour drive to many interesting sites. It was very quiet for sleeping and had a lovely outdoor courtyard to enjoy an evening glass of wine. Not for everyone, as others have noted, with steep stairs to lower level. But that is a trade off for the opportunity to stay in a 400 year old cottage in a great location. We recommend nearby Bistrot d’Epicure and the excellent wine store Julien de Savignac in Le Bugue. Thanks to Ines!

Fantastic
We had a great time in this beautiful little cottage. It's a bit of a drive but worth it! It's close to many castles and outdoor activities. There were 4 of us and the place for us perfectly. I would recommend it to anyone.

Cottage in Berbiguieres France
I discovered Berbiguieres by chance and loved it so much I had to go back. I found the listing and contacted Katherine to make the reservation almost 2 years ahead of time. It was my dream place and I was not let down. The place was a perfect Perigordian cottage. Perfect in every way, the welcome, the ambiance, the convenience, the comfortableness, and the simple beauty of rural France, which to me is infinitely better than the large cities. I would never go to Paris or Province when I can go to Perigord. I am an artist, an Art History and a History buff. This place has everything. The cottage is really special. I recommend it to everyone! And I felt I made a new friend with Katherine who went out of her way to make sure our welcome was impeccable. There was a wonderful terrace and garden, the view over fields and mountains is beautiful, and the amenities like kitchen and bathroom were clean and fully equipped.

Beautiful Berbiguières - Perfect for exploring the Perigord Noir
What a fantastic experience we had. The cottage in Berbiguières was just what we needed to get the full experience of the Perigord Noir/Dordogne Region of France. It's centrally located just south of the river and an easy drive to so many charming communities and chateaus throughout the region. Not to mention that Berbiguières itself is a quaint, country community that is full of charm and relaxation. Our entire experience was top notch - from making the reservation with the owner to working with the local property manager. The cottage is well appointed and has everything you need for enjoying your time at the cottage and resting between outings exploring the region. You're greeted by a quaint covered patio just through the gate, situated along the walking path from the center of the village. You open the door and pass through a thick stone wall that transports you to the past with all the creature comforts of the present. A comfortable living room/dining room/kitchen offers the perfect space to plan your daily excursions or to consume your purchases from one of the local public markets. There are two bedrooms - one upstairs and one on the lower level (three stories) that offered us plenty of privacy as we were two couples traveling together. The bathroom included a wonderful shower that worked well for someone taller like me - not to mention great water pressure. All in all, I cannot begin to say enough words of compliments or thanks for such a great experience and stay. The cottage helped make our trip to the Dordogne special, memorable and down right perfect! Thanks for making it available to us - as our travels allow, we'd love to go back. Merci beaucoup!!

Successfull holidays in Berbiguière
First, what a Nice surprise when we discovered the village : so quiet, beautifull and however, full o Life !
Then, we discovered the cottage, built With the beautifull local stone. Each of the members of the familly found its place and appreciate the decoration. I particularly appreciated the spacious shower ( not so Common in France). In general, this place is comfy and easy to live. Outside There's also a Little Bench carved into a wall, massively appreciated by the kids.
The garden enables BBQs and during watering the plants you can make rainbows !
I highly recommend this place for a good stay and would say it is the ideal place to Discover the aera, Lascaux, sarlat la cenada and all kinds of famous other places.

Delightful and cosy
Our family (2 adults and 2 kids, aged 13 and 15) enjoyed our recent stay in this cottage in Berbiguieres. We felt very privileged to have the opportunity to stay in such a beautiful old village. Our host, Katherine, was very prompt in communicating with us when we were booking the property, and we appreciated that she accepted a shorter booking than usual as we arrived late in the season. Ines, the local who oversees the property, was very friendly and welcoming. The house itself was very comfortable for all of us. The kitchen is small but functional and the living/dining and bedroom areas are a good size. The outdoor courtyard is delightful and great for al fresco dining. The distance from the car park to the property was shorter than I expected from previous reviews, and was not an issue for us. We enjoyed returning to this picturesque, quiet environment every day after our travels. Many thanks to both Katherine and Ines for this unique experience. We also highly recommend spending a day kayaking on the Dordogne - this was a highlight for our family.

Charming Cottage in an Authentic Setting .. Delightful!
Our time getting to Berbiguieres, including finding it and unlocking the door!!, was an adventure, but once there we were mesmerized with the authenticity of the setting. We felt like we were time-capsuled back to a time of simpler, purer life pleasures. The cottage was well appointed for all basic needs .. the biggest challenge was with the stairs but otherwise, we found it to offer a special, secret, home-away from home. Ines, who oversees the rentals on site, is a warm, very welcoming person who too knows a lot of the history of this very unique village - she was a wonderful source of information and also a very kind host. Great base from which to explore the Dordogne. We absolutely loved the opportunity to partake of this special village and would return in a heartbeat.

Lovely Cottage in a Lovely Place
My wife and I and two children (ages 16 and 19) had a great stay here. The
cottage is lovely, a comfortable size, well furnished, clean, and quiet - the
only sounds are an occasional car, the birds, a rooster, and a braying donkey.
The village is very quaint and peaceful. The village is small and we only saw a
few people; we were up and gone most days.
It is in a great location for accessing many destinations: castles, chateaus,
bastides, fortified Romanesque churches, prehistoric caves, medieval cities,
wineries, great views, etc.
There is no store or Tabac in the village so the breakfast baguette and
croissant need to be purchased the day before in St. Cyprien or elsewhere. The
temperature was in the upper 70s to low eighties while we were there. The kids
said the loft area was fine for sleeping so long as the provided fan was
running. Going from the loft to the bathroom in the basement in the dark of the
night requires turning on a light or bringing a flashlight or nightlight. The
bathroom (sink and shower) are separate from the toilet room, which helps when
there are four in the cottage.
The parking is not right at the cottage but in the village square about 200
yards/meters away along a pathway at the base of the chateau wall. The village
square was not as large as our pre-visit mental picture, but we were able to
park fine every day but one, and on that day we parked in the village parking
area by the cemetery which is only an extra 200 yards/meters from the square and
that worked out fine.
The owner is very pleasant and helpful and quickly responded to questions.
We highly recommend the rental.

Charming cottage in quiet, picturesque setting
Our stay at Berbiguieres was an incredible delight. It is tucked protectively beneath a majestic chateau, amidst roses, fragrant honeysuckle, and calla lilies. The cottage is cozy and tidy, with a surprisingly well-appointed kitchen. We were well within traveling distance to many excellent wineries, including those in St. Emilion. We recommend visiting the Chez Claudette Restaurant in Beaumont, a reasonably priced, family owned eatery. The veal chop with morels was quite memorable, and the service friendly despite our lack of expertise in the French language. We loved touring the nearby Chateau Castelnaud and La Noix, a walnut farm where one can sample candied walnuts, as well as walnut cookies, wine, and spirits. The cottage owner is cordial, helpful and prompt in replying to all questions regarding the property. Please note though, that this accommodation will not be appropriate for those who find stairs challenging.

Unique Dordogne cottage
A perfect place to relax and enjoy the peacefulness of a tiny village, yet be within easy driving distance of cave paintings, village markets, castles and canoe trips on the Dordogne. Very nicely furnished, well-equipped and managed. We highly recommend it!

Charming and Real
We very much enjoyed spending our week at the cottage - it was wonderful. We loved the village and access to all the area activities. So peaceful. Canoeing down the Dordogne, visiting the caves, dinners at the night markets, reading in the garden, watching the hummingbirds, visting with Innes, wandering the charming towns, will be fond memories for us always. Visting Lascaux II and making arrangements to visit one of the caves still open for tours is a must - totally fasinating - we had arranged to visit Grotte de Font-de-Gaume in advance of our trip (just google the name) and it was a highlight of our visit. As others have noted - living in the cottage - having a home base to cook meals, sitting out on the terrace, visiting with Innes and her animals connected us to the area in a very special way. Thanks much.

Fairy Tale Setting
My husband and I stayed here in September with a friend and it was a great vacation. The cottage was comfortable and cozy and ideal for us. Here is what was important to us:
We slept great - the beds were firm, the village was quiet;
The shower was hot and water pressure was good (three people taking showers daily);
Appliances were up to date, easy to use, plenty of cooking tools;
Furnishings were comfortable and practical - nothing fancy - exactly what we wanted;
Even though the cottage is very old, there were no mildewy smells and the temperature remained comfortable (Floors are cold, though! Wear socks!);
The location of the village was ideal for exploring the area and the area is GORGEOUS. You could just head off in any random direction and find something interesting and beautiful in short order!
Lastly, the owner was very helpful and cooperative when we had a last minute change of plans, and she was very prompt in refunding our deposit. We should have been so prompt in giving our rave review, since this place deserves it!
We were so happy, and our (French) friend was enchanted and impressed with our choice. We would love to go back!

Rare find in the heart of the Dordogne
My husband, our toddler son and I stayed in this charming cottage and really still can't get over what a rare find it was. Berbiguieres is such a beautiful and unique village and while there are no stores or food in the village itself, it's very convenient to everything you need. We were so close to the main points of interest along the Dordogne and filled our days with village markets, eating on the courtyard and sampling plenty of wine. Our son loved wandering through the little pathways of the village and visiting Nanu (the property manager's donkey). The cuckoo birds, hedgehogs and all the other elements of rural life were just perfect. We also made a trip to Arcachon and the Bordeaux wine country one day, which was just the right distance. Katherine was wonderful to work with in coordinating our trip and we hope to return in the future!
If you haven't been to the Dordogne, you definitely need to rent a car as most things are spread out. Bike rentals are a great option too!

What an experience living in a 400 year old cottage with the modern conveniences of a washing machine and microwave. We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this tiny village, yet just a 5 minute drive to St. Cyprien with all the needed services of weekly market, bakery, great tourist office and more. The cottage is exactly as advertised and very well equipped for anyone wanting to cook or eat at home. The only issue might be the steep stairs to the lower floor for anyone with problems with stairs. We easily visited many of the numerous attractions of the area and there are still more we didn't have time to get to. Maybe another visit!

Wonderful spot in the Dordogne
We took the TGV from Paris to Angouleme and rented a car for the aprox 2 hour dirve to Berbiguieres. Beautiful countryside most of the way. The house is well appointed and very comfortable. The little hamlet is quiet and relaxing, but 10 minutes from a decent sized town with a farmers market, 2 good bakeries, small shops, a super market and everything you could want. We were close to all the places to see, castles, canoing, biking and hiking. We recommend Frederique at CycleO in Sarlat for biking and canoing with Copeyre Canoe with a pick up in Benyac and mention Rick Steve's you get 10% off. All in all a great time, we only wish we had stayed longer!

A cozy cottage in Dordogne
My wife and I spent a week in this cottage. We found it to be precisely as advertised. Any attempt to describe the property would be repetitious as, if you will review the descriptions and pictures that are provided, your expectations will be met. This is not a luxury property but neither does it carry a luxury price tag. We found it comfortable and a very fair value.
The village is very quaint and quite. We did not discover a single commercial enterprise so you do have to travel a few miles for supplies or activities.
Beyond what is apparent in the property's advertising, we further recommend this cottage for the following 2 reasons:
1. The owner is very prompt and forthcoming with the details of the rental. For instance, our deposit was refunded so promptly that it was in our mail when we returned home.
2. As with all real estate, it is location, location and location. We found this property to be centrally located to everything we wanted to tour (castles, chateaux, caves, markets, etc).
So, "two thumbs up" from us on this cozy cottage!

My wife and I spent a wee...
My wife and I spent a week in this lovely cottage in the
Dordogne. We had a terrific time visiting the valley,
the chateau's, and the Cro-magnon trail. We visited a
cave with paintings that were 14,000 years old and we
also enjoyed the the food and wine. This is a great
place to visit.
