Our 2 week family vacation at the Bay House was truly special. Traveling from the US with a large family group, we were looking for a comfortable, scenic, and peaceful home base, and this house exceeded all expectations. The view from the house is absolutely stunning and was a constant source of joy throughout our stay. The home itself is very spacious, and even with a big group, it felt calm and quiet inside. We loved how well-appointed the house was â everything we needed was there, and clearly the space was prepared with care.We enjoyed beach walks along the slate shore in front of the house. The peacefulness and natural beauty were exactly what weâd hoped for. We also loved watching the sheep roam just across the driveway â especially the newborn lambs that arrived during our stay. It added such a charming and authentic touch to the experience.Debbie, the host, was absolutely wonderful. Warm, friendly, and extremely responsive, she answered every question we had both before and during our trip. She struck the perfect balance â available and helpful when we needed her, yet always respectful of our privacy. Her local recommendations for dining, hiking, and sightseeing were spot-on and added so much value to our experience. If youâre looking for a quiet, spacious, and beautifully located home to enjoy Southern Ireland, we highly recommend the Bay House. It made our family trip truly special, and we leave with hearts full of gratitude and memories weâll cherish forever.
This lovely home is incredibly well appointed and everything about our stay was first rate. The view is captivating and our host could not have been more gracious and attentive. A wonderful and carefree week with my family.
The pictures donât lie - the front yard of the Bay House ends at the beach. The water views from the living room and three bedrooms are amazing. Debbie was great to work with - very friendly and responsive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Excellent holiday property. Lots of beds and bath and space inside and outside. Very well equipped kitchen, also everything you need in the house, books, toys, chairs, BBQ etc. Just as well, as you are miles from anywhere and will certainly need to cook and to entertain yourselves. The photos don't even do it justice, the views are even more beautiful and ever changing. Even our materialistic teenagers were mesmerised. Location is lovely if you like your peace and quiet and nature. Walking distance to Durrus which has one pub that does food and a basic shop. But Bantry is 15 mins and has all shops, supermarkets, nice little cinema and restaurants and takeaways. Easy drive to much of West Cork on picturesque little roads, very charming. We had a great holiday (8 of us, 2 families) and highly recommend. We didn't have perfect weather but pretty good and it didn't spoil our fun, a nice family film evening and a meal of spaghetti is a bonding experience for cousins who don't see each other very often.
Three generations had an absolute perfect stay at Bay House! The view of the bay that appears as you drove down the lane to the property is absolutely spectacular⊠then you get to look at it the entire time of your stay! Even a bit of rain couldnât ruin the view. The home was very clean and comfortable and Debbie and Chris are the most gracious hosts!
Wow! Just a spectacular location in the sheltered bay near Durrus. We thoroughly enjoyed our all too short stay.
Home comfortably slept 10 - a mix of adults and older kids. House had everything we needed - including charcoal BBQ.
Kids loved playing on the lawn and exploring the bay when the tide was out. The views were just stunningly. We enjoyed eating sitting outside and having a coffee in the morning sitting on the sea wall listening to the peaceful sounds of nature on the bay.
The small village of Durrus was good for an evening out, as was fishing for trout on Lake Boffina and a visit to the gardens of Bantry House. If you enjoy beaches, then Ballyrisode is a must along with hiking to Sheeps Head.
The whole area of West Cork is just beautiful in the summer.
Thanks to Debbie for great communication before and during our stay.
We rented the bay house for a family reunion and it surpassed all our expectations. From the outset, Debbie was fantastic to deal with. We have small children who loved playing on the big lawn and seeing the sheep being fed up and close next door! The home is very well equipped to cater for large families. Very comfortable beds were a great bonus. Weâd love to rerun some day!
Myself, my husband and 2 children (aged 12 & 15) along with two friends and their 3 children (3, 13 &15) had a weeks stay in Debbie & Chris' home and had the best time!
The location is simply stunning - the bay looks different at all times of the day along with much wildlife to watch, Otters, Herons and other birds - you could very easily spend your time just at the house and not go anywhere!!
We had a brilliant game of rounders/softball on the lawn with the Bay as a backdrop - which was amazing!! So much space.
The house itself was very clean and had everything we needed - we had a BBQ and cooked dinner for ourselves a couple of nights. The living space had plenty of room for us all and there were enough bedrooms and bathrooms to choose from! The 3 main bedrooms had wonderful views over the bay - we felt very lucky to wake up to that view every morning!
Debbie's welcome pack was the best we've been given on any of our vacations and communication with Debbie was very good.
Durras is just a short walk away with friendly locals, a grocers and a good number of pubs for such a small place!!
Our friends have never been to Ireland before so this was a great location to visit Kenmare, Killarney, Gap of Dunloe, (on the ring of Kerry - 2hrs away) and then more local attractions like Mizen Head, Gollen & Barley Cove Beach, Glengarriff (Seal spotting and Island trips), Skibbereen, Baltimore and Crookhaven - with great sandwiches and fish pie!!!
We had a fantastic meal at 'Church Restaurant' in the centre of Skibbereen and plenty of lunches in various pubs around the area - none of which disappointed!
Overall a great week in a beautiful location with fabulous hosts and we look forward to returning very soon!! Lou, Kev, Harry & Ella
We had a lovely week-long break in this fantastic house. Everything was as it should be, and the location on the waterfront is just amazing. A 20-minute walk takes you into Durrus, with a grocery shop, cafe and a few pubs serving food (outdoors only when we visited). All the beautiful sights of West Cork are within an easy drive. Highly recommend!
We spent an idyllic week at Bay House. Grandparents and 2 families and the dog and we had plenty of space. Debbie and her family were so friendly and welcoming. Thank you. This is a wonderful part of the world, so much to see and do, and Bay House is the perfect place from which to explore it all. Wouldn't hesitate in recommending it and really hope we get the opportunity to do it all again sometime!
This is a perfect home and property for a great getaway. There is plenty of space in the house and surrounds there are loads of activities for all ages even down to a toy room for the small children. Most importantly the beds, pillows and linen are five star. More than happy to recommend and to stay in again.
We had a wonderful stay this August at Bay House. Debbie and Chris are completely professional and charming hosts. The house is spacious, was immaculately clean and well-equipped and the location is unrivalled - literally on the sea shore. Unlike many country properties you can walk to Durrus for groceries or a meal which we appreciated. Excellent all round. Thank you Debbie and Chris.
This is a very spacious house, ideal for a large group. It is very well equipped, clean and beds are extremely comfortable. The seaviews from the house are stunning and a fantastic bonus.
The house has its own private water supply. We all agreed that is was the purest most refreshing drinking water we ever tasted.
The booking process was straighforward and Debbie was very efficient answering our queries.
The location is ideal for exploring the surrounding area.
We had a wonderful week here with extended family.
Lovely home in a brilliant location right on the water. The house had plenty of amenities and the land around the house is perfect for outdoor relaxation.
Our host Debbie was very responsive and has a great balance of being friendly and welcoming but not intrusive in any way.
Durrus village has a few bars only about 15mins brisk walk from the house and Bantry is a short drive away!
Star of the show is the view being able wake up to such beautiful scenery is a treat along with sitting out in the evenings. Our kids loved the sheep and freedom to explore. Nice bonus is being able to go for a swim whenever you like with a rocky beach outside your front door. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to slow down and unwind.
Debbie and her husband were very helpful and friendly. We loved our stay, the house was immaculate & beautiful plus the views were amazing! There were 9 of us and there was plenty of room.
We'd love to go back! Durrus village was lovely and we particularly liked the Long Boat pub.
We had a really nice week in the house of Debbie and Chris. Already the Chek-In was super relaxed, although we had a lot of delay by the ferry . The house itself has everything you want. A very large dining area with a nice kitchen, a cozy living room, 5 bedrooms with comfortable beds and 3 great bathrooms. For smaller children there is a nice play area. But above all, the huge garden and the direct sea view were incredibly beautiful. The owners Debbie and Chris, who live right next door, were always very friendly and willing to help, but never intrusive, so you could enjoy a lot of privacy. This house is definitely recommendable
I would like to thank Debbie and her family for a truly excellent stay at their holiday home. The house was immaculate and Debbie was on hand to offer anything else we needed. The location of the house was perfect with the most gorgeous views (even despite our first week of grey weather). I couldn't fault anything from the initial booking to the service when we were there making our stay welcome and relaxing. Thank you.
What a beautiful house. ! Setting is magnificent. House is so well equipped with everything one could possibly want and Debbie and Chris are so helpful. We had a wonderful week there.
We really enjoyed our stay. There were six of us so more than enough room. The house is well equipped. It was great to wake up in the morning and have fantastic views out all of the windows. The kids really enjoyed running around the garden and onto the beach - and enjoyed fishing for crabs in the ocean. The area has lots to offer - even if it is a little cloudy during your stay. Debbie and Chris were around if needed to answer any questions or offer any advice which was helpful when thinking about exploring new places. Make sure you read the details that utilities are charged extra - I had not realised that detail. Enjoy!
We had a great family holiday at Bay House and were blessed with good weather! Debbie and Chris were really helpfully from start to finish providing great communication, allowing us early access, help with cooking appliances, etc. Bay House offered us the perfect family holiday retreat with amazing views, comfortable setting and a good base to explore the wonderful area, taking in both Mizen Head and Sheepâs Head peninsulas. We would definitely love to return!
